NEW DELHI: Aggressive batter Tilak Varma was on Monday named in the India A squad for the T20 World Cup warm-up matches, while express pacer Mayank Yadav marked his return after a lengthy injury break.

Tilak, who has received clearance from the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) following a full recovery from a groin injury, is set to play one of the two warm-up fixtures before linking up with the senior Indian team.

The left-hander makes his return to national duty after missing the recent T20 series against New Zealand, where Shreyas Iyer filled in during his absence.

“Tilak Varma will take part in one warm-up match before joining the senior squad,” the BCCI said in a social media post while unveiling the team.

India A will face the USA at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Monday, followed by a clash against Namibia on Friday at the CoE in Bengaluru.

Ayush Badoni has been named captain of the 15-member India A side, which also features Naman Dhir, Vipraj Nigam and Riyan Parag.

Mayank, meanwhile, returns after being sidelined for more than a year due to a stress fracture, a setback that had stalled his rise in international cricket.

Defending champions India will open their T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on February 7.
